The W+F FM25 Machine Gun (Lmg25) is an 8.65 kg automatic weapon with a toggle-action breech.

The recoil velocity of the barrel and slide is 3 m/s; the barrel recoils 74mm. The barrel and breech start their recoil movement together, but the breech opens only after it has travelled 10mm in its initial position, and when the gas pressure disappears. The breech opens without shock.

A bipod (front support) can be attached to the barrel mantle, while another adjustable foot (rear support with leather sheath) can be used as a central or rear support.

Each FM25 (LMG25) had two barrels (barrel A and barrel B), including the bolt. The second barrel with breech was carried in a leather case, which also contained a cleaning rod.

There was also a 10.7 kg infantry support (tripod), which could also be placed in the D.C.A. position.

An anti-aircraft sight and a blank-fire adapter were available as accessories.

Magazines were carried in leather neck pouches (2 pouches each containing 2 magazines), or in the 10-magazine sling bag.

Between 1924 and 1946, around 23,400 FM25s (LMG25s) were delivered.

And between 1939 and 1942, only 1'742 were produced with a scope rail.
