Very well preserved overall, consistent and unrestored. Barrel with sharp octagonal edges and well-preserved markings. Receiver with a natural grey-brown aged patina. Walnut stocks well preserved with normal handling marks.
Bore in good condition: strong, well-defined rifling, with some pitting at the bottom of the grooves, consistent with the historical use of black-powder ammunition.
Mechanically fully functional, including the Take-Down mechanism.
An early Model 1893 .38-55 Take-Down with short 20" octagonal barrel, authentic and particularly appealing to the collector.

Marlin Model 1893, s/n 116xxx, early production circa 1895, chambered in .38-55, one of the historic calibers of the model.
Very interesting Rifle Take-Down configuration, with a short 20" (50.8 cm) octagonal barrel and full-length tubular magazine.
The barrel is clearly marked:
“MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO. NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A.”
together with patent dates ending “AUGUST 1, 1893.” The “.38-55” and “MODEL 1893” markings are also perfectly clear and legible.
Very well preserved overall, consistent and unrestored. The barrel retains an attractive period finish, with sharp octagonal edges and well-preserved markings. The receiver, originally color case hardened, now displays a natural and even grey-brown aged patina.
Bore in good condition, with strong, well-defined rifling. Some pitting is visible in places at the bottom of the grooves, consistent with the historical use of black-powder ammunition.
The walnut stocks are well preserved, with an attractive patina and normal handling marks for a firearm of this age.
Interesting sighting equipment with a period Lyman front sight with light-colored bead, marked “LYMAN'S – PAT. AUG. 31. 86”, and a period adjustable rear sight.
Mechanically fully functional, including the Take-Down system.
An early Marlin Model 1893 .38-55, in a particularly appealing Take-Down configuration with short 20" octagonal barrel, retaining a high degree of authentic period character.
