Machine gunners' saddlebags were originally made of leather, but later, when leather became scarce and was used for more important purposes, they were made of Preßstoff, or ersatz, a pressed paper material.
They are available in black, beige and gray.

Definition of Preßstoff :
- Preßstoff is the German term for a type of ersatz or artificial leather used in the first half of the 20th century.
- It was one of the earliest artificial leathers.
- It was made from specially laminated paper pulp with a leather finish and treated for water resistance.
