The Reibel machine gun (Machine Gun Model 1931, also known as the MAC-31) was a French machine gun used in French tanks, on mounted supports, and in French fortifications (e.g. the Maginot Line).
After the Second World War, a total of 182 units were imported from France and converted by the Swiss W+F to the 7.5 mm GP11 caliber.
The Tank Machine Gun 31 (7.5 mm Pz Mg 31) is a gas-operated weapon with a piston rod and a tilting locking block.
- Gas-operated system with gas tapped from a port in the barrel.
- Locked-breech system with a fixed locking block and knee-joint type bolt.
- The moving assembly consists of the bolt and piston connected by a pin and also includes the firing pin.
- The receiver is painted black.
- The weapon weighs 10.6 kg; the empty drum magazine weighs 3.5 kg.
- The drum magazine has a capacity of 140 rounds.
- Barrel length: 405 mm; 4 right-hand grooves with a 5° twist.
The Tank Machine Gun 31 (7.5 mm Pz Mg 31) was used in Switzerland from 1951 onward in the Light Armored Vehicle 51 (AMX-13) as a coaxial weapon and was equipped with a pedal-operated safety.
