The vast majority of Walther PPs and PPKs were commercial, and this is where the confusion began.
In 1940, late '39, early '40, the Nazis decided to embellish their proof marks, and so they transformed the “N Crown” proof mark into an “N Eagle” proof mark.
Thus, during the war, all PP and PPK pistols bore an “Eagle N” on the breech.
