The British Service Revolver 38/200 (caliber 38 S&W):

- Over 571,629 examples of this type were produced between October 1941 and May 1945 for the countries of the British Commonwealth. These included the Union of South Africa (21,347), Canada (45,328) and Australia (8,000).

- The remaining 384,100 were shipped by U.S. Army Ordnance under the Lend-Lease program to Great Britain for distribution.

In terms of series, the lowest series referenced on the forums with “MADE IN USA” is in the 791xxx range at the end of 1941, so this 976xxx is probably in the March/April 1942 range.
