For the shooter, and only on the 1st models, on the outside of the tube are engraved on one side the graduations and firing distances for the Special Subsonic ammunition, and on the other the position at which the shooter must position the rear sight of his K98.
Mounting on the K98 is by means of a clamp assembly similar to that of the rifle grenade.
- Total length 230 mm, 3-part shock absorber tube 33 mm in diameter.
- the muzzle cap is unscrewed to insert the felt sealing washer
- the inserted bushing, without sealing washers (has not been unscrewed).

- In the confidential supplementary sheet “D97/2+ Handwaffen / Gewehre” dated 15.7.1942, we learn that silencers had been introduced.
- In this document, under the heading “K 98 k”, the old accessory number 1-1899-60 for silencers is changed to the new number 1-5018.606.
